Africa Day

25 05 2021

25 May is Africa’s annual celebration day, as it was the day when the Organisation of African Unity, today’s African Union, or was founded back in 1969. The Organisation of African Unity was established in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, by 32 signatory governments, with the main purpose of supporting countries in Africa to become independent or to eradicate colonialism. Currently, the African Union has 55 member states, making it a successful corporation in the region.

Each year, the theme of Africa Day differs depending on the issue that the members of the African Union agree upon. In 2021, the theme was “Arts, Culture and Heritage: Levers for Building the Africa we Want”.
